So I was watching some videos about the Can-Am Commander when I came across a video about the Electric Can-Am Commander. The Electric Commander is nothing new but if you look closely in the video you’ll see a hidden easter egg of the electric or hybrid Spyder.
This is not the first time I seen BRP slip up and give me a little easter egg for future development. In one of the Spark videos you’ll see a blue spark on the wall, so a blueberry spark will soon be out. This is also not really new, Can-Am use to have a picture of the “future hybrid” spyder in there old spyder brochure. After that we never really heard much more about the tech and it seems like it faded off. With this video it shows that the idea is alive and well.
It looks like this electric or hybrid Can-Am Spyder is on the OLD GS frame. In parts of the video you can see a cover over the bike, but for some odd reason they forget to cover it when they shoot other parts of the video.
You can clearly see a “High Voltage” warning sticker on the side of the bike, this must be where the batteries are located. Its really cool to see a prototype out and to see that BRP is working on tech that we won’t see for years.
Can AM has proven they can make electric vehicles with the Electric Commander. Its just a matter of time before the electric spyder comes out to play. With the popularity of electric cars taking off its just a matter of time before we see more and more electric motorcycles on the road.
Makes me wonder if the Electric Spyder will use the same charging port that all electric cars use. You can pick these electric charging port up just about anywhere now, here is a link to a common charger.
Zero Motorcycles makes an all-electric motorcycle that can have a range up to 185 miles. That’s quite a bit of range for anything vehicle. If Zero Motorcycles is able to achieve that range than we can expect the Electric Spyder to do the same since it can carry more batteries. What I’m really hoping for and probably everyone reading this is probably hoping for is a plug-in hybrid.
A plug-in hybrid would mean that you can go so many miles and when the battery is drained a gas engine comes on to supply the electricity to keep you going. This tech has been in use modern trains and even the Chevy Volt.
Here is the video Where I saw the Leak Electric Spyder.
