Trailer Dimensions & PWC Garage Storage

A while ago, I had a customer taking delivery of two new Sea-Doo’s on a double trailer. He lived in an apartment complex, but had a garage that supported “two cars”. He was worried if it would fit, in my head it should be no problem, as two car garages are wide enough. When I got there, it was a garage that held two cars, but it was not side by side, but front to back. (I didn’t know that was a thing?) Luckily, the door was wide enough to put the double jet ski trailer through.

I tell you that story because it’s got me thinking others will face a similar situation. That day, I learned that all garages are not the same, and the info on jet ski trailer dimensions is not all that great. This is why I wanted to write this post, to help people figure out if their jet skis on trailers will fit in a garage or other storing areas. Going off just the trailer is not good enough, just look at the top picture to see that jet skis hang off the side and back. There is a lot to unpack here, so let’s talk about it below.

Jet Ski Trailer Measurements

The watercraft trailer sizes below are based on Triton Aluminum Trailers and Karavan Trailers, as they’re the most common I find.

A “single” holds one machine and a “double” holds two.

  • Wave Single: 148 inches long and 55 inches wide.
  • Single: 182 inches long and 60 inches wide.
  • Spark Double: 149 inches long and 102 inches wide.
  • Double: 182 inches long and 96 inches wide.
  • Sea-Doo Karavan Double: 184 inches long and 100 inches wide.
  • Double Elite: 189 inches long and 102 inches wide.
  • WC2-2: 201 inches long and 102 inches wide.
  • 4-Place: 344 inches long and 102 inches wide.

Remember, the jet ski extends beyond the trailer’s rear by about 12 to 20 inches. They also stick out on the sides, especially with doubles, so you’ll need extra space for your watercraft on the trailer.

  • The Wave Single is for Sea-Doo Spark, Yamaha EX, and standups only.
  • The Spark Double is a Karavan trailer for two Sea-Doo Sparks and Yamaha EXs (Rec-Lite watercraft) only.
  • The Sea-Doo Double is a common Karavan Double trailer, similar in size to most non-aluminum trailers.
  • The Double Elite is a bigger double with nicer options added.
  • The WC2-2 is a double with tandem axles and the nicer options too.
  • The 4-Place trailer holds 4 crafts, and it’s a good choice for those with 3 jet skis too, as 3-place trailers are rare.

The Maximum Trailer Width

Interesting enough, there is a maximum width of 102 inches that a trailer can be if it goes on the road in the US.

So if your garage door has a width greater than “102 inches”, it’ll fit any watercraft trailer’s width! (So long as you don’t have something odd blocking it)

Garage Sizes

Door Width

Your door will be smaller than the actual width of your garage, and you’re not getting it in if it won’t fit through the door.

So the door’s width needs to be considered.

A single will fit through any 1 or 2 car garage-doors just fine. A few doubles will fit through a 1 car garage-door if the opening is 9 feet or more, but space will be tight.

Length

The most common length for a 1 and 2 car garage is 20 feet or 240 inches.

Will a jet ski fit? All trailers should fit, except for the 4-place ones.

To maximize space, consider angling the trailer and moving the tongue to avoid tripping hazards.

Other Ways To Store In Your Garage:

A trailer for a jet ski takes up a lot of garage space, with the tongue and rear of the craft extending.

One option is to remove the watercraft from trailer during the off-season.

The best way to do this is with a stand.

This video does a fantastic job showing you how you can do it, but I must warn you, they are heavy, and you’ll need at least 1 if not 2 extra guys to help you.

Many people in videos use plastic slides on their bunks or lubricate them to ease in sliding.

However, this can be risky if you forget to secure the front and rear of your craft properly when on a trailer. I avoid using these bunk slides because I’ve seen jet skis slide off trailers during sharp turns.

The way dealers move units off trailers is with either a forklift or a hoist.

The most effective method I’ve seen for homeowners to remove them from their trailers involves using a wall-mounted winch.

They slide it onto a stand that matches the trailer’s height. Then, to reload onto the trailer, they use the trailer’s hand-crank winch.

  1. Wow…What a great site. Glad to have found so much useful info. I am looking at a 2008 Sea Doo RXT 215 that a friend has. He no longer uses the PWC, and is looking for $4000 for it with a trailer. It looks very clean throughout, but it has 369 hours which is my main concern given what I have read. He claims that it runs without issue, and is willing to let me take it for a weekend to try it out. Any thoughts?
