I started working at a power sports dealership in 2007, I worked in parts, service counter, and as a technician before moving to sales in 2013. I created StevenInSales.com in 2014 to answer common watercraft questions I would get from people. Now managing the site full-time, I continue to provide advice and web tools for my readers about watercraft. I've owned several watercraft, with a Sea-Doo Spark as my current main PWC.
Hey Steve, I’m in the market to buy a jet-ski this year and I was wondering if I could pick your brain on what you would suggest. I’ll be on lake St Clair (Michigan) each summer with it and notoriously gets pretty rough. I was leaning towards a GTX 170 because of it’s nice look/ colorway and it seems like the perfect jetski to just drive around in, occasionally hit a wave here in there, but basically ride with friends that also have their own. I wanted your professional opinion if I should consider another brand or model because they were head and above the rest. I am staying away from supercharged engines just because of how big the lake is and how far I would be traveling.
Thanks,
Go with the GTX for sure! I did a post on the best jet ski for the ocean and rough waters (https://www.steveninsales.com/best-jet-ski-for-the-ocean-or-lake/) and the top picks use the GTX hull. Otherwise, consider a Kawasaki ULTRA. Me personally, I would go with the GTX 170 like you mentioned, it’s the best all around model.
